Grrr... Hello Guys... Grrr. I was sorting out some things and stumbled across a movie called the Stanford Prison Experiment. Would you like to give it a watch? I've heard it's quite good.
Hi Falstaff! Sure let's watch it
Why are we still talking? *chomp* *chomp*
Sounds like a plan to me. Let's do it!

Watching...

That was amazing! The idea of the experiment is fabulous. Who would have though that if you assigned some students as guards, others as prisoners and stuck them into a makeshift prison their behaviour could change so much. Although, it is quite sad that it was a total blunder...
I feel you... There were far to many problems for the experiment to yield reliable results. For starters, the lack of oversight and abuse of power lead to violence greater than even in most prisons. Additionally, the very integrity of the "prisoners" was put to a test which is unacceptable.

Grrr... Interesting... Grrr. Personally, I thought it was a huge success. Not only did they get the results they wanted, they even managed to do so in a much shorten time than expected.
Exactly, I also think so. The findings clearly demonstrate the deindividuation that people experience when they are stripped of their individuality. However, that doesn't mean that I fully agree with the methods...

Well, regardless surely we can all agree that the Professor is to blame for all . Moreover, he let the guards abuse the inmates but he even actively encouraged them to do so. Not that the rest of the psychologist's team were much better...
Precisely, I also think both he and the former prisoner he invited along share most of the blame. I think so because they influenced each other not to intervene and, therefore, let the guards take advantage of the prisoners for their own entertainment.

Grrr... Actually... Grrr. I think the real culprits were the guards. They mistreated the inmates both physically and psychologically. They were singlehandedly responsible since they were continuously escalating the violence against the prisoners.

Spot-on! There was no need for such blatant abuse of power by the guards. They even went as far as to confine one of the prisoners to solitary so long that he sustained psychological trauma. They were the ones totally in the wrong!

Lastly, I think that despite its shortcomings, experiments like this one are important for understanding the human mind. They might impact, for example, criminal justice reform by triggering the reevaluation of incarceration as a method of rehabilitation. Nonetheless, no ones mental or physical health must be compromised in these experiments.
In any case, I have to go. See you!

Totally tootally! These studies can lead to great leaps in the field of psychology. For instance, the experiment's outcomes have helped to prepare individuals to better handle situations where power dynamics are significantly altered, such as in disaster response scenarios.

Furthermore, this experiment provides understanding of situational power. Put simply it illustrates the power of social roles, norms, and scripts in shaping individuals' actions, even leading to behavior that contradicts personal values and morals.
Anyway, take care!

Finally, the controversiality of this study caused it to have widespread media coverage and has, as such, increased the public awareness of psychological phenomena and the importance of mental health and ethical behavior in positions of power.
However, in future studies it should go without saying that not putting the experimental subjects in danger should be the number one priority
